Zenesis
Brief
Design an innovative piece for a contemporary furniture brand that resonates with its aesthetic and philosophy.
Opportunity
At the time of the project the brand did not have any lighting related furniture.
Solution
A floor lamp featuring a minimalist yet functional design, showcasing clean lines and natural finishes.
Process
Empathize and Define
Besides empathizing with the user’s needs it was necessary to fully comprehend the brand’s aesthetic, philosophy, and target market.

Learning through prototyping
A series of challenges arose during the development of the high-fidelity prototype.
The hollow tube lacked structural integrity and collapsed when the radius was reduced beyond a critical threshold.
A solid concrete base proved impractical due to its excessive weight.
The roller's dimensions were insufficient to accommodate the scale of the project effectively.
Problem Solving
As Design has taught me, every challenge can be solved through thoughtful iteration and refinement.
The tubes were changed to include both hollow and solid sections, enabling the piece to be disassembled with ease.
The base was constructed with stacked MDF with a hollow center and coated with a thin layer of concrete, this made the structure lighter.
Why ZENESIS?
The name ZENESIS creates a synergy between the calm of "zen" and the origins of "genesis". With this floor lamp we strive to keep the materials as close to the raw material as possible, without sacrificing aesthetics.
Going back to the modernist origins of design where "less is more", the lamp is a representation of how going back to basics can result in a balanced and clean design.
Final Product
The exposed aluminum on the interior enhances light reflection in both directions.
A central tube is used to allow the light bulb cable to be threaded through and concealed under the hollow base.
The spaces around the concrete base and aluminum 'halo' design enable the user to move the lamp with ease, despite its weight.
